Unconscious Archives presents: James Holcombe
James’ work fuses improvisatory techniques in the mechanics of clockwork movie cameras with the limitless possibilities inherent in the darkroom and through expanded projection. For Supernormal 2014 James presents an iteration of a recent piece Hair in the Gate, which takes as it’s departure point the removal of a hair from a projector gate during live projection, exploiting to an absurdist degree the hitherto hidden ways in which a projectionist would do this. Expect burning hair and gobbets of spit dancing a duet on screen in glorious smell-o-vision.
