Get the most from Supernormal

There are tonnes of activities at Supernormal, but some of them need a little forward thinking. Here’s your guide to some of the things you might like to get your beak into.

Bluescreen – show your own film

Bluescreen are a film collective from Bristol, passionate about short film and their sole purpose since 2001, has been to screen as many Short Films as possible, made by Filmmakers hailing from Bristol, England. Over 1100 films and counting… Heading up Bluescreen are Steve and Tess.

Sunday’s screening will involve you, the Supernormal going public! Because this will a Bluescreen Open Access Screening event. And they want your films! What they want is for you to bring any films that you have made yourself, 5-10mins in length, on a Memory stick or a DVD. Just drop them into the Cinema tent on Friday/Saturday.

The Backwerdz Causality Songwriting Workshop

This is open to all and you can just come along on the day… but, it would be great if “players” can bring sources/ideas, so here are some ideas..

  1. Spend the week before the festival getting up twenty minutes early to write stream of consciousness “morning pages”.
  2. Extract key phrases.
  3. Take twenty minute walk ruminating melodically on the phrases (be brave and let other phrases follow – see the cliché coming and try to swerve past it at the last moment).
  4. Ring the melodic key phrase and attendant lines to the group and sing it into the circle – we will sing it back.
  5. Take lines from another source (aims and objectives – morning pages what you see out the window – what you did last night) and start to build a verse.

Maggie Nicols’ The Gathering

‘The Gathering’ is a free, powerful and unique space for improvisation based on Maggie Nicols’ renowned and inspiring gatherings starting from 1991.. If you want to be part of a gathering at Supernormal, join Maggie with or without instruments in the woods on Sunday from 3pm
